The Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime has accepted the request of SPAK and has forwarded for trial the file against the former head of the Saranda Prosecution Office, Kledian Llaho, lawyer Çlirim Shahini, and businessmen Vasil Bakalli and Pando Papuçi.
The four are accused of corruption and exercising unlawful influence over judicial officials.
According to investigations by the Special Prosecution Office, former prosecutor Kledian Llaho is suspected of having used his position to favor persons under investigation in exchange for financial benefits.
SPAK informs that a citizen with the initials MA, who was under investigation for the criminal offense of "abuse of office" at the Saranda Prosecutor's Office, had financial obligations to Llaho's father-in-law regarding an investment in a hotel.
According to the prosecution, Llaho asked this citizen to return the amount of 1.8 million lek to his father-in-law through businessman Vasil Bakalli, promising him relief in the procedural position in the investigation.
The file also mentions businessman Pando Papuçi, who, according to SPAK, is suspected of having given a 30,000 euro bribe to Kledian Llaho and Vasil Bakalli, with the aim of influencing the prosecutor who was reviewing his case.
The investigations also allege that Papuçi also gave 25 thousand euros to lawyer Çlirim Shahini, after the latter had promised him influence with the judge in the case.
SPAK states that the accusations are based on evidence obtained through investigative actions and special investigation methods.
In the preliminary hearing held on May 6, Judge Engjëllushe Tahiri decided to transfer the case to a three-member panel for trial.
Meanwhile, one of the defendants, businessman Pando Papuçi, has requested a summary trial.
