A young Albanian man has fallen into the hands of the police in Malta, after being accused of severely assaulting a customer in a bar. Riald Gragjevi, 21 years old living in San Paël il-Baħar in Malta, worked as a bodyguard in a night club.
The attack happened on New Year's Eve in Paceville.
The case emerged in a video on social media showing a group of people beating a young man outside a nightclub. Gragjebi, who was one of these bodyguards, was accused of beating Idris Ahmed Ademi, along with other people. He was also charged with disturbing the public peace. Idriss Ahmed Adem is from Sudan and was taken to Mater Dei Hospital for treatment.
Gragjevi was brought to court after the police stopped him at the airport, under the suspicion that he would try to flee the country. Before magistrate Joe Mifsud, Riald Gragjevi pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him. The defense argued that the defendant is a victim in the same case, as he was beaten and hit with a glass bottle. Regarding the prosecution's argument that Grajevi would try to escape from Malta, the defense said that was not the case, as the plane ticket was bought 3 weeks ago. However, Gragjevi was taken into custody, while police investigations into the case are still ongoing.
