A serious incident occurred this morning in Lozhan i Maliqi, Korça district, where an officer of the Shqiponja forces was killed and another was injured. The victim Enea Mekolli and the injured Edison Adri were part of a police operation that took place in the early hours of Thursday morning in a mountainous terrain in the village of Lozhan, while the suspected perpetrator of the incident, Violand Braçellari, was injured during the gunfight.
Reports indicate that the group of officers approached the place where the wanted Braçellari was hiding, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison for drug trafficking and was considered a highly dangerous character. The former soldier, who has become a problematic character for the law, had managed to escape 4 or 5 previous operations, even from RENEA forces.
According to reports, the police had obtained operational information that Braçellari was sheltering in Lozhan, which was followed by taking action to capture the wanted person.
Some of the police officers involved in the action were civilians so as not to arouse suspicion when they approached the place where Braçellari was hiding.
"Surrender to the police," it is learned, were the calls directed at Braçellari, before the latter opened fire with an automatic weapon without warning, which seems to have caught the officers in action unprepared.
As a result of the shooting, Officer Mekolli was killed and his colleague, Adri, was seriously injured.
Police returned fire, wounding the suspected perpetrator, who reportedly received a bullet in the arm.
