New details have emerged from the serious incident recorded this morning in the Lozhani area, in Maliq, where a police operation to arrest a wanted person was accompanied by an exchange of gunfire.
According to preliminary information, the State Police structures had located a wanted person and had organized an operation to capture him. During the intervention, the wanted person opened fire on the police forces, escalating the situation.
As a result of the exchange of fire, police officer Enea Mekolli lost his life, while officer Edison Adri was injured . The perpetrator, Violand Braçellari , was also injured and was neutralized and handcuffed by police forces.
Sources indicate that the injured officer will be transported to Tirana by helicopter to receive more specialized medical treatment, due to his health condition.
Meanwhile, authorities continue investigations to fully clarify the circumstances of the incident, while an official response with more details is expected from the State Police.
