On April 20 of last year, the name of Elis Rroshkodoli would reappear on the scene for another criminal event, after the terrible robberies with the Shkodra group in Belgium, during 2014, when he was arrested for the first time.
As he had traveled to Romania with urgency, he stayed for two days in a hotel in Bucharest, in the Dorobanti area, and followed his target, the millionaire businessman Jean Sassu, owner of the chain of luxurious bars and taverns known as "Nuba".
The moment he saw that he was alone and saw his three bodyguards, he attacked him from behind. The Romanian media and the police also published the footage, as the 35-year-old from Shkodra walks up behind the businessman and stabs him in the back with a knife.
At that time, the police, while publishing the name of Elis Rroshkodoli and declaring him wanted by a court decision as a suspect, also announced some of the possible leads. The fact that the Albanian had traveled to Romania and followed the target was suspected for the scenario of a commissioned crime with the aim of giving a warning message between groups, a revenge or a possible gesture of intimidation by a business rival.
The victim himself said after the incident that I did not upset anyone. The businessman was admitted to the Floreasca hospital, as he was described as the "young millionaire", Jean Sassu spoke at that time (April 24, 2023) with the journalists of the Romanian media "Observator", about everything that happened.
"I am better after 4 days in the hospital. I will try to outline a circle of suspects, but at the moment I have none. At the moment I don't understand, I have no enemies, I hope not. Maybe it was a message, but I don't understand, I don't have conflicts. I had hired bodyguards, but not at that moment ," he said.
Romanian judges issued an arrest warrant in absentia for 35-year-old Elis Rroshkodol shortly after being identified from CCTV footage. The Romanian authorities said that the author had planned the assassination.
"He came to Bucharest two days before the attack, stayed in a hotel in the northern area and pursued Jean Sasu all this time. When he reached the moment, he stabbed him in the back. Then he disappeared. He took advantage of the police's delay, as after two hours at the border he flew to Turkey. Even if the attacker is no longer in the country, Jean Sasu is afraid of being threatened again, so he has taken measures" , the Romanian media wrote after the event.
Almost five days after the attack, the security of the tavern where this incident took place was doubled, as were the bodyguards of the three owners who own the entire chain of bars.
Sassu said last year that he hoped the authorities would do their job.
"We are working together with the authorities, we expect them to complete the entire investigation. I have never pissed someone off so much that I send a message like that. I am still waiting for clarification. I've only seen it in movies ", he would say.
Elis Rroshkodol (Shkoza) was killed today in Shkodra with a firearm, by an unidentified person.
