Lulzim Berisha was arrested on December 14, 2023 in Spain as part of the operation codenamed "Sant Joan".
Former Durrës gang leader Lulzim Berisha has arrived at Rinas airport. This marks the finalization of his extradition after he was arrested in Madrid, Spain.
Lulzim Berisha was arrested on December 14, 2023 in Spain as part of the operation codenamed "Sant Joan". The State Police at the time had information through intelligence sources that Berisha was hiding in the Iberian country and after informing the authorities there, it became possible to locate and then handcuff the 52-year-old. Before the arrest, Lul Berisha was hiding in Spain with Bulgarian papers.
We recall that in 2016 he managed to leave prison without completing his 25-year sentence, being released on parole by the Court of First Instance in Durrës on health grounds. This decision at the time came after the Supreme Court had rejected the prosecution's request for a life sentence.
Berisha was arrested in 2006 for the criminal activity of the Durrës gang committed in the years 1998-2000 for the criminal offenses of “Premeditated Murder” committed within the framework of a “Structured Criminal Group” and “Unlicensed Possession of Firearms”. 16 members of this gang were sentenced to a total of 245 years in prison by the former Court for Serious Crimes.
However, in January 2022, Lulzim Berisha was declared wanted by the Durrës Prosecutor's Office for the same thing that he was released from in 2016. This happened about 2 years ago after the Supreme Court overturned the decision to release him on bail.
In 2020, Lulzim Berisha was declared wanted for the murders of Vajdin Lame and Klodian Saliu, murders that took place in 2005, which were solved 15 years later. The case for Lame's murder was dismissed, while he was currently wanted only for Klodian Saliu, who was killed on the Durrës-Maminas road, in the village of Koxhaj while driving a Mercedes Benz.
