New details have emerged from the gunfight that occurred this morning in the Mikrolimano area of Athens, where an Albanian citizen wanted by Greek authorities was injured.
The suspect is 42-year-old Alessio Xhelo from Fier, known in Greece by the nickname "Titi" and previously under the identity Astrit Hasani. He was shot by Greek police after he attempted to flee and open fire on officers during a routine check.
After neutralizing, Xhelo was transported to the "Attikon" hospital in Athens, while his health condition has not yet been made public. At the scene, police seized three firearms and six grenades that were suspected to be in his possession.
The 41-year-old has a serious criminal record in Greece and Albania. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in Greece for the murder of a Greek citizen and was considered a high-risk person, involved in several shootouts with the police.
According to the investigative file, Xhelo had escaped from Petro Ralli prison in Greece in 2019 along with two other prisoners, taking a guard hostage. After the escape, he entered Albania, where he was later arrested in Vlora with an unlicensed weapon.
Albanian authorities had placed him under "house arrest" in Fier, under the supervision of the FNSH, on serious charges such as arms trafficking, kidnapping, and attempted murder of police officers.
In March 2025, Xhelo was arrested again after threatening and insulting a FNSH officer who was assigned to supervise him.
Meanwhile, Xhelo's recent posts on the social network TikTok raise suspicions that he may have been free in recent months, despite the security measures. In a video published in October 2025, the 42-year-old was seen leaving a police station and then moving freely in Saranda.
Greek investigators are verifying how Xhelo crossed the border into Greece, while it is suspected that he had entered the country illegally and was sheltering between Saranda and Athens.
