Criminal groups are showing their power more and more by investing in firearms which are of recent years and expensive.
In various operations in Tirana, Vlora and Durres, bases with weapons of different calibers were found.
Referring to police statistics, in various operations throughout the country during the past year, 410 firearms were seized, of which 199 were pistols. Meanwhile, this year the trend of handgun trafficking is higher. Out of 125 firearms seized until this April, 75 of them were pistols.
This was also a finding of SPAK's annual report, which stated that "Recently, a growing trend of criminal groups operating abroad has been observed, which are ordering firearms of the "pistol" type."
In addition to pistols, a widely used weapon is the Kalashnikov, which is mostly used as a tool for carrying out mafia executions.
In most cases, these weapons are left behind by the perpetrators inside the cars that were set on fire. These weapons have been taken to scientific laboratories where they have been examined but it has not been found in any case that they were used in previous criminal events.
