The millions in cryptocurrencies that the Special Prosecution Office seized as part of a criminal investigation in 2024 have brought foreigners to Albania seeking information or their release.
Tv Klan learns that 40 requests for information have been sent to SPAK regarding the reasons for the blocking of portfolios. In 2 cases, a citizen from Ecuador and another from Turkey have filed a request with the Special Court for their release.
SPAK suspects that the cryptocurrency wallets, worth $10 million, were created by criminal activity and were used for transfers in the Hawala system, after finding them linked to the accounts of Marklen Mici. The latter is being investigated by SPAK for money laundering as part of a criminal group.
Referring to the documents that Tv Klan read, the Turkish citizen claims that he has been dealing with cryptocurrencies for years and that $2.7 million has been unfairly blocked, while transactions with citizen Marklen Mici are approximately $300,000.
The same reason was raised before the court in Albania by the Ecuadorian citizen, who claimed that he had been dealing with the issuance of cryptocurrencies for 4 years and that through his wallets he also had transactions with people who were not related to Marklen Mici.
But SPAK opposed their requests, arguing before the court, which decided to leave them in sequestration, as long as they continue with investigations into every transaction that was carried out.
