The mafia-inspired murder that shocked the city of Vlora on April 27, where 58-year-old Renato Hoxhaj was left dead, unlike crimes that tend to be perfect, left a mark.
The show "Në Shënjestër" on News24 has revealed the investigation leads that the police are investigating, one of them being Eris Mehmetaj, who was arrested two days after the murder in Tirana.
The young man from Tropoja, the son of former MP Xhevdet Mehmetaj, is suspected of helping the perpetrators by providing the car used in the assassination. Although he denies involvement, investigations show otherwise: evidence was discovered on his phone that links him to the incident.
Mehmetaj turns out to have had close contacts with Roan Brahimi, a name rumored to have clashed with Ervis Martinaj and was killed in May 2024 in Athens.
Furthermore, Brahim's father, Gjovalin Prendi, was killed on April 17 in Lezha, which strengthens suspicions of a chain of revenge.
According to investigations, Mehmetaj had purchased the car used in the crime in the name of an elderly woman from Vlora, while behind her stood Alesio Dobrozi, a name wanted for the assassination of Brilant Martinaj.
It is suspected that behind this chain is a powerful criminal group based in Dubai, where Mehmetaj had published photos shortly before the crime.
The perpetrator, now identified as a Romanian citizen with a criminal record, waited for about 90 minutes at the entrance to the building where Hoxhaj lived.
When the victim came out, he was shot twice in the head and once in the body, dying instantly.
The footage shows the author calmly, wearing a mask and hat, unusual clothing for the season, but designed to avoid identification.
One of the strongest leads being investigated is that Renato Hoxhaj may have been an informant for a powerful gang in Vlora. He turns out to be a neighbor of the Sinomati family, where Gëzim Sinomati was previously killed with a sniper, another unsolved crime. Police sources do not rule out the possibility that Hoxhaj was aware of the previous murders.
The execution of a person considered "small" in the criminal hierarchy raises serious questions: are witnesses being purged with dangerous information? Is fear being used to silence people where justice has not been served?/ In Target
