"He played theater for a week", Alba Cenko's family reacts after
Kastriot Cenko and the victim Alba Cenko

The trial of Albanian Kastriot Cenko in Greece, accused of the brutal murder of his wife, 38-year-old Alba Cenko, has entered its final phase. Meanwhile, the victim's relatives have reacted harshly to his claims in the courtroom.

Shortly before the verdict was delivered by the Mixed Jury Court in Athens, relatives of the mother of two minor children called the defendant a "liar", categorically denying his statements that Alba cheated on him with his childhood friend and that one of the children was not biologically his.

"He says all this because his lawyers are trying to get him a reduction in sentence. These are lies. Let him do a DNA test if he claims the child is not his," the victim's brother told Greek media.

The 38-year-old's family members say that Alba was dedicated to her family and worked constantly to support the household economically.

"She worked two or three jobs, afternoons and evenings, just to help the family. She spent all day with her husband and his family. She didn't deserve this end," said another family member.

They also describe the suspected perpetrator's character as seemingly calm, but with sudden outbursts of anger.

"We don't understand how he managed to kill her and then hide the body in the attic. He could have gotten angry very quickly. My sister is still psychologically devastated and won't stop crying for Alba," said the victim's brother-in-law.

According to the indictment, the serious incident occurred on November 29, 2024, when the 39-year-old allegedly hit his wife with a hammer and then strangled her with an electrical cable. He hid the lifeless body in the attic of the apartment where they lived with their two minor children.

In his testimony before the court, Kastriot Cenko admitted to the crime, but claimed that he was motivated by jealousy and by his wife's statements that she wanted to divorce him and take the children with her. He also said that he hid the body so that the children would not see it.

According to Greek media, for about a week after the murder, he continued to live normally at home with his children, while trying to deceive both the authorities and the deceased woman's family by not telling them what had happened.

Alba's family members are demanding the maximum sentence for the suspected perpetrator, while emphasizing that the couple's two children are currently in the care of his brother in Greece.

The next hearing will be held on May 29 at the Athens Court, where new developments and the final decision on the case are expected.
