An Albanian couple were sentenced to 6 years in prison after taking 500,000 euros from an elderly woman in Greece.
The Albanian took care of the 82-year-old woman, where together with her husband they used and forced her to sign the will.
They used a notarial power of attorney and a psychiatrist's certificate, which the elderly woman was in good health, even though she was "unable to sign".
The three-member Criminal Appeal Court of Thessaloniki found them guilty of fraud, while the elderly woman's psychiatrist was sentenced to 4 years in prison for complicity in fraud, after proving that the woman had legal capacity.
The whole scheme was revealed after the denunciation made by the relatives of the elderly woman after her death in September 2017, when it was notified about the power of attorney to give movable and immovable properties to the family, for the helper and her husband.
According to the indictment, there were successive powers of attorney instructing the couple to manage her bank accounts, sell her properties and transfer to themselves the house where the 82-year-old lived in the center of Thessaloniki.
Meanwhile, by decisions of the civil courts, the will with power of attorney and the transfers of real estate were annulled. In their statements, the three defendants have denied the charges.
