Three days ago, 30-year-old Albanian Lulzim Toci strangled his wife, Eleonora Toci, while they were in bed and their children were present at home.
The killing happened in the early hours of the morning in San Felice a Cancello, Caserta, Italy and has shocked the local community and beyond. They were divorced, as they had already gotten back together and the victim had only recently gone to Italy.
Today, Lulzim Toçi admitted the crime to the investigators, but when he was asked about the reason, he did not have an explanation.
"I don't know how to explain that I did it," he is said to have said, according to Italian media.
During the questioning, which lasted about 3 hours in the Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison, where the 30-year-old man has been locked up since Wednesday, Toçi confirmed what he declared in the prosecutor's office, Iolanda Gaudino, before the carabinieri who had arrested him a few hours after the crime.
The young man who worked in agriculture, with the help of a translator, repeated that he had strangled her with his bare hands in the bedroom, probably while the children were sleeping. But he was unable to reveal anything about the reasons.
His lawyer, Orlando Sgambati, is expected to request the appointment of a consultant for psychiatric evaluation.
