Four Albanians have been jailed in Great Britain after kidnapping an Italian citizen because he had not been paid for an alleged drug debt.

Sky News reports that the Italian, in his 30s, was held for 36 hours against his will in an apartment in Cricklewood, north-west London, after being lured to a bar in February this year.

While there, he made several phone calls to his ex-partner and friends to help him pay off £110,000 they were demanding in relation to a drug debt owed to his friend. When the police entered the apartment on February 18, they found the victim with several stab wounds and bruises.

Cell phone footage later recovered by officers showed the victim pleading with his captors not to kill him. Ervis Ademi, Xekson Malollari, Mariglen Elezi and Hydajet Kadriu are all imprisoned.

Both Malollari and Elezi were found guilty of conspiracy to kidnap, while Elezi was also found guilty of possession of a small amount of cocaine.

Two men had taken the victim to a bar in Cricklewood Broadway to collect a drug debt. Then the three of them left together, and while they were walking on Richborough Street, two of the four hooded Albanians approached, grabbed the Italian by force and put him in a car. From there, the group fled to a flat in Dean Road, where they argued with the victim, leaving him with stab wounds to his body during the fight.

After the victim called for payment, the police were made aware of the kidnapping and began to search the apartment at 2am on February 18 as part of Operation Major.

Around 12:30, armed police entered the apartment and arrested Malollari and Elez. Ademi and Kadriu escaped but were caught and arrested outside the building.

Detective Constable Tom Waller, who led the investigation, said: "This abduction was a horrific planned attack on a person."

After the arrest of the Albanians, the officers searched the apartment for evidence, where they found hoodies, items stained with blood, mobile phones and the keys to a car that had been at the scene of the kidnapping.

The bar's camera footage showed Malollari as one of the people who met the victim in the bar. Also, security camera footage from a nearby business showed the same car at the scene of the abduction and parked outside the residence.

According to police, there were also several incriminating photos and text messages on the phones, and a video showed the victim with injuries, answering questions about money and pleading for his life. Ademi and Malollari were sentenced at Amersham Crown Court on Friday, September 22, to 10 years in prison.

Elezi and Kadriu were each sentenced to four years in prison.
