The Ancona customs office has seized around 5,300 liters of olive oil and various quantities of alcoholic products originating from Albania. The seized quantities were attempted to be smuggled into Italy.
This was discovered by officials of the Ancona customs office, together with Guardia di Finanza soldiers of the Ancona Provincial Command, during daily traffic checks carried out.
Customs officials and military personnel from the Ancona Group found plastic cans of various capacities, containing olive oil and alcoholic products without any accompanying commercial document declaring their origin, as well as the health certificates required by law to be released for consumption, Ansa reports.
All this would allow the introduction into Italy of a product that did not have the characteristics of suitability for human consumption and exempt the products from the payment of border duties required by law.
The drivers of the vehicles were questioned by customs officials but responded that they had nothing to declare: they are accused of not having made the customs declaration as the holder of the goods.
The products found have been subject to administrative seizure for smuggling, for attempting to introduce goods into Italy while evading payment of border duties and excise duty on alcoholic products.
