Anti-drug operation in Spain, two Albanian criminal groups are destroyed; 24

Key day in the fight against marijuana trafficking in Catalonia. Two police operations are currently underway in different areas of the country. That of the Civil Guard focuses on the province of Tarragona and that of the Mossos d'Esquadra on Maresme and Barcelona.

The aim of the Spanish armed forces is to dismantle a gang based in Catalonia that has been trafficking drugs internationally for years, while the Catalan body seeks to dismantle a criminal group that sells marijuana and hashish in vending machines pretending to be CBD (a legal product containing the active principle of cannabis that has no psychoactive but therapeutic effects). So far, the Civil Guard has arrested 21 and the Mossos 3.

According to police sources, the Civil Guard has been targeting a criminal group established mainly in Tarragonès that traffics marijuana for two years. They are, according to the same sources, an organization of Albanian origin that has a hierarchical structure and highly sophisticated systems (both defense and production). After months of surveillance and monitoring, the police have been able to identify eight indoor cannabis plantations controlled by this group, directed by a man of Albanian origin who has already been arrested.

The plantations are located in industrial buildings and villas and are very protected. Police sources say they have found multiple security cameras and even motion sensors that alert the gang to any presence nearby.

According to investigative sources, the criminal group had its main point of drug production in Catalonia. Afterwards, however, it was not used to distribute it throughout the country, but was dedicated to international traffic. The leader of the group had a high standard of living thanks to the profits generated by the drug business and lived in large villas.

In total, this morning, the Civil Guard carried out 16 checks in different places such as Bisbal del Penedès, Salou, Perafort, Palau Solità and Plegamans or Cambrils. In the latter city, the police, who have more than 200 officers at their disposal, found two firearms and a silencer.

The Mosso operation, on the other hand, focuses on a criminal organization that mainly sold drugs in Catalonia and did so in a rare fashion. Basically, according to police sources, they were selling in commercial establishments all products that, on paper, were made with CBD, a derivative of marijuana that has no narcotic properties.

In reality, however, these products were made with marijuana and hashish. Three arrests have been made so far and more are expected. Controls are focused on Maresme, in towns such as Santa Susanna or Canet de Mar. At the same time, checks were also made in some commercial facilities that had vending machines for these products.
