A 64-year-old Albanian man, wanted since 2015, has been arrested in Italy while attempting to flee to Germany.
He was caught at the Brenner railway station as he was attempting to leave Italy on an international train bound for Germany.
Wanted by the Florence Judicial Authority for almost a decade, the Albanian was caught during a routine check by the Railway Police, where it was verified that he was a wanted person and sentenced to prison for violating Italian law.
According to the order of the Florence Prosecutor's Office, he had 1 year, 7 months and 24 days of imprisonment left to serve.
According to Italian media, the Albanian was released from prison in March 2015, but a few weeks later he was deported from Italy to serve the remainder of his sentence in Albania. Under current legislation, he was not supposed to return for 10 years.
After identification, he did not resist and cooperated with the authorities. He has currently been sent to the Court of Bolzano to continue the necessary legal procedures.
