Habilaj, wanted for drug trafficking, has been located at a beach bar in Borsh
After several years of searching, the police have arrested Moisi Habilaj, a well-known name in the justice system. It is learned that his arrest was carried out in Borsh.
Moisi Habilaj had been wanted by Albanian and Italian justice for several years. Habilaj was arrested in 2017 by Italian police along with 11 other people. He was placed under house arrest by the Catania court, but when the Appeals Court announced the decision, he disappeared from the apartment where he was staying and was on the run.
According to sources, the operation to detain him was carried out by RENEA, after locating him at a beach bar owned by his relatives in Borsh.
In January 2019, the Serious Crimes Prosecution Office concluded the investigation into Habliaj and the three other defendants. They were accused of having trafficked large quantities of cannabis to Italy over a period of several years, in collaboration with each other and other individuals.
The Special Court then sentenced Moisi Habilaj to 15 years in prison for drug trafficking and organized criminal group. Due to the summary trial, the sentence was reduced to 10 years in prison. The case was sent back for retrial by the Supreme Court, but the same sentence was again given.
Defendant Nezar Seiti was sentenced to 12 years and upon application of the summary judgment, his final sentence was reduced to 8 years in prison.
In the retrial of the case, the charges against the other two defendants, Maridjan Sulaj and Fatmir Minaj, were dismissed because they had been convicted by a final decision for the same criminal act.
Moisi Habilaj was previously sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Italian justice system for international drug trafficking. He had been wanted by the police for almost 10 years, but was only located today.
