Scandal/ The Korça Prosecutor's Office forgives Denis Meçe

The Korça Prosecutor's Office has softened the charge against Denis Meçe, changing it from "intentional murder" to "negligent murder".

The murder of Egli Proga on Sunday afternoon in the city of Pogradec continues to be surrounded by shadows of scandal that now involve not only the Police, but the Prosecutor's Office and the Court.

After the brutal beating by 29-year-old Denis Meçe that caused the death of Egli Proga, it was reported that the victim died after falling to the ground in a drunken state.

But the family members reacted when they found signs of violence on the victim and the police were forced to react again to declare that they had not hidden the event, but had documented it by arresting the perpetrator and three other people for not reporting a crime.

The police announced that they have referred the incident to the Prosecutor's Office as "intentional murder", which according to the criminal code is punishable by 10 to 20 years in prison.

But the prosecutor's office, after 48 hours, when it sent the file for assessment to the court, changed the charge against Denis Meçe, referring to the incident as "murder by negligence", mitigating it to the maximum. This criminal offense is punishable by a fine or imprisonment of up to 5 years.

The brutal beating that Denis Meçe inflicted on Egli Proga and caused the death of the latter, was described by the prosecutor of the case as manslaughter.

This measure was confirmed by the court at noon today, leaving him in prison.

The court of Korça left the 29-year-old Denis Meçe in prison, while the three accused of not reporting the crime, Voltan Shulku, Arian Manellari, Leonidha Guçe, the black squads, were assigned the security measure "compulsion to appear".

Court Decision:

In the Court of First Instance of the General Jurisdiction of Korçë, a hearing took place today on 13.08.2024 at 11:00 a.m. with the object: "Validation of arrest in flagrante delicto, appointment of security measures", against citizens DM, V.SH, AM, LG where the court finally decided: Acceptance of the request.

1- The validation as legal of the arrest in flagrante delicto and the assignment of the security measure "Arrest in prison" against the DM citizen, suspected of committing the criminal offense "Manslaughter" provided by Article 85 of the Criminal Code.

2- Validation as legal of the arrest in flagrante delicto and the assignment of the security measure "Compulsion to appear before the judicial police" against the citizen V.Sh, suspected of committing the criminal offense "Disobedience of the crime" provided for by Article 300 of Criminal Code.

3-Validation as legal of the arrest in flagrante delicto and the assignment of the security measure "Compulsion to appear before the judicial police" against the citizen AM, suspected of committing the criminal offense "Discipline of crime" provided by article 300 of the Criminal Code .

4- Validation as legal of the arrest in flagrante delicto and the assignment of the security measure "Compulsion to appear before the judicial police" against the LG citizen, suspected of committing the criminal offense "Discipline of crime" provided by article 300 of the Criminal Code .

The victim's family members were also present outside the building, among them the sister of Egli Proga, who wanted to see the suspected perpetrator of the crime and the other arrested persons.

The victim's family claimed that the police hid the murder of the 42-year-old, stating that Elgi Proga had died after falling on the road in a drunken state. They have also stated that not only one person was involved in his murder, but accuse them of a crime that happened in collaboration.

According to the information, it turns out that Denis Meçe is the grandson of the former director of the Albanian Post, Valter Goro.
