Four members of an organized crime group who tried to smuggle 139 kilograms of cocaine into the United Kingdom by hiding it in a container of bananas have been sentenced to around 61 years in prison in England.

According to the British media, the head of this group, Mirgert Shahu, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison. Also, an Englishman, Robert Ball, who was also sentenced to 18 years in prison, helped to smuggle cocaine worth 11 million pounds.

Their two associates, Florjan Ibra was sentenced to 13.5 years in prison and Arman Kaviani to 12 years and nine months.

The authorities had found the drugs at the port, and had removed them, but had let the truck pass, to see who possessed the narcotics. The arrest of Shah, Ball Ibra and Kavian was made in April 2022 while they were unloading the drugs on the roof of the container, which they believed they still had.

Ball and Shahu gave directions to Kavian and Ibra in the storage yard, who used a forklift truck to climb on top of the container.

They opened the roof using a crowbar and began to unload the packages, but in the process NCA and police officers arrived to arrest them.

All four men were charged with drug trafficking, while Kavian was also charged with possession with intent to supply after £500,000 worth of crystal meth was found at his home.
