An operation by the Italian police of Rome and Reggio Calabria has destroyed a criminal gang by arresting 12 people, Albanians and Italians, suspected of involvement in drug trafficking and trading.
Antimafia of Rome points out that members of the group have had different roles in the organization.
The investigation called "Triton", carried out by the Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of Rome, launched in February 2022, dismantled a local "Ndrangheta" with roots in the municipalities of Anzio and Nettuno, dedicated not only to drug trafficking but also to the conditioning of life local politics and control of economic activities and the awarding of local contracts.
At that time, 65 people were arrested. Revenues from drug trafficking supported activities and encouraged illegal infiltration into the economic and social fabric of coastal cities. The drugs arrived from South America, processed directly by the Calabrians, the only ones who had privileged and solid contacts with the Colombian cartels. Acting as a link between Calabria and the Italo-Albanian group located in Castelli would have been Vincenzo Italiano, already on trial for the "Tritone" investigation in contact with "Il blondo", one of the two contacts in Calabria.
In particular, in fact, the "Tritone" investigation documented how one of the members of the "Ndrangheta", having the ability to import large shipments of narcotics from South America, in order to obtain further income, had expanded his business to the sale of narcotics from the municipalities of Anzio and Nettuno to the municipalities of Rocca di Papa and Grottaferrata and the district of Eur, in Rome, intertwining their affairs here with those of the organization, composed of today's suspects.
The investigations, carried out by the Carabinieri of Via In Selci, made it possible to reconstruct numerous cocaine sales as well as to document the logistical capabilities of the consortium, which also had at its disposal a pilot, a private jet and a surface air force for the importation of of narcotics in the municipality of Nettuno, with which the amounts are supposed to have moved.
