Investigations started in 2020, initially small amounts, significant cash currency and real estate were seized, which led to the heads of the organization and its dismantling.
New details have come to light from a mega-operation of the Italian Anti-Mafia in the region of Bari (Pulja) that led to the attack of a narco-trafficking cartel on the Albania-Italy line, with at least 28 suspected persons and that was carried out by sea route.
Investigators explained in a press conference how the drug, described as "very pure", arrived in Italy via fishing boats that left Albania. But the nationalities of those detained and investigated were not published at the moment, as well as their names.
The Directorate of Anti-Mafia Investigation announced yesterday evening (September 23) that it is implementing the order of the Court, at the request of the Directorate of Anti-Mafia District, against 12 people (11 in prison and 1 under house arrest) investigated for various criminal offences.
The organization, which has 15 other people under investigation at large, is accused of trafficking large quantities of cocaine in the Foggia area and its province, Bat, Lower Molise and Abruzzo.
"The investigations - according to the findings of the DIA - made it possible to document and collect evidence, according to which between July 2020 and November 2021, the organization distributed over 20 kilograms of pure cocaine, equivalent to over 83,000 doses on the illegal market and with a profit of about 6.6 million euros", writes "La Gazzetta Del Mezzogiorno" .
During the investigations, more than 10 kg of narcotics were seized from the suspects, equivalent to about 45,000 doses, characterized by a very high degree of purity, the average of which, after laboratory analysis, was between 42.59% and '87.04% . Also, two home-made bombs with deadly attack potential, ANSA points out.
In the previous operations, where the threads of the group were caught, 100 grams of hashish, immovable and movable assets, with a total value of about 200 thousand euros were seized from one of the suspects.
The turnover of the organization was about 3.5 million euros per year according to the evidence captured so far. To the arrests that are currently being carried out, the seizure of the property illegally accumulated by the suspects, including investment companies or current accounts of over 600 thousand euros in cash, has been added, to which the seizure of September 2022 is added.
The other 15 suspects were invited to appear before the investigating judge of the Bar Court, for preventive questioning and investigation in a free state, until new evidence is found.
"The public prosecutor of the DDA, Ettore Cardinali, pointed out the inadequacy of these new procedures in the specific case of organized crime, suggesting that a more traditional approach could guarantee greater effectiveness in arresting and detaining figures involved in mafia organization", writes the media "occhioche.it".
It was also explained that the method of sending drugs from Albania with fishing boats shows the importance of the connection between criminal groups.
Prosecutor Roberto Rossi also expressed concerns about the potential risk of suspects fleeing or tampering with evidence, given that some people at risk of arrest now have access to sensitive information about the proceedings.
