Tirana police have cracked down on a group of robbers of taxi drivers and citizens on the street, arresting 3 suspects, including a woman.
The police have uncovered several cases of criminal incidents involving detainees with previous criminal records.
It is learned that the arrested are Ajla Qefalia, 22 years old, Fatbardh Byberi, 36 years old, and Luis Mija, 22 years old. They are accused of violently stealing a wallet from a taxi driver and then stealing a female citizen's cellphone. Initially, two of them were caught and then the third person who was traveling by taxi was arrested.
The three arrested people, who are facing charges of the same crime, were arrested, while the security measure "house arrest" was imposed on 22-year-old Ajla Qefalia.
"As a result of the investigations conducted with the objective of identifying and arresting the perpetrators of the thefts, the services of Police Commissariat No. 4 finalized the operation "Episodet", during which citizens AQ, 22 years old, FB, 36 years old and LM, 22 years old, all three residents of Tirana, citizens with precedents in the field of thefts, were arrested.
From the investigative actions, it is suspected that yesterday, citizens AQ and FB attempted to forcefully steal the wallet of the taxi driver they were traveling in on “Selaudin Zorba” street. Afterwards, it is suspected that they stole the cellphone of a female citizen on “Tahsim Shehu” street.
Further, the investigation revealed that citizen AQ was currently under house arrest for the criminal offense of "Theft." It is also suspected that the 22-year-old was with the other 2 arrested persons in a taxi at the time of the attempted theft.
"Under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, investigations are ongoing, with the aim of uncovering other thefts that these citizens may have committed. The procedural materials were referred to the Tirana Prosecutor's Office for further action ," the police announced.
