The police have revealed the full dynamics of the incident that occurred the day before in Pogradec, where a 52-year-old woman was found lifeless inside her burned-out apartment.
The incident was initially reported as accidental after it was suspected that the 52-year-old had died from asphyxiation during the fire in her apartment. However, after an external examination of Kozeta Teço's body, injuries suspected to have been caused by a knife were found.
According to police, 31-year-old Ilirjan Selmani stabbed the victim Kozeta Teço, with whom he had been in a relationship for 3 years, then set the apartment on fire and ran away at around 05:00.
"Citizen IS is suspected of stabbing citizen KT, 52 years old, setting fire to her apartment and leaving the apartment at around 05:00," the police statement said, among other things.
Meanwhile, the young man was arrested today by the police, although yesterday when he was escorted to the police station, Selmani denied the accusations of involvement in the crime. He is accused of the criminal offense of "Murder due to family relations."
Selmani was at the victim's house on the night of the crime, and it is suspected that a momentary conflict occurred between them, which escalated into physical violence and ended with Teço fatally stabbing him. To hide his tracks, the perpetrator attempted to clean up the scene, then threw the bloody towels and napkins into a trash can and set the apartment on fire.
Despite the attempt to stage the incident as an accident, security cameras recorded the perpetrator throwing the evidence in the trash, which led to his identification and arrest. Selmani, known for his drug addiction and mental health problems, has denied the crime, but the evidence collected by the police and the prosecution documents the full dynamics of the crime.
"As a result of rapid and professional investigations, the circumstances and authorship of the incident that occurred yesterday in Pogradec are revealed. He killed the 52-year-old woman with a knife in her apartment, and then set the apartment on fire, the 31-year-old man is arrested.
As a result of professional and rapid investigations, carried out by specialists of the Korça Local Police Directorate, under the direction of the Korça Prosecutor's Office, it became possible to clarify the circumstances of the incident that occurred on 28.07.2025, in neighborhood no. 1, Pogradec, which was initially reported as accidental after it was suspected that the 52-year-old woman had lost her life from asphyxiation during the burning of her apartment.
Police services, during investigative actions and the external examination of the dead body, have raised suspicions that the cause of the 52-year-old's death was not asphyxiation, because they found suspected injuries on her body caused by a cutting tool (knife).
Following in-depth investigative actions, carried out under the direction of the Korça Prosecutor's Office, based on video footage, it was possible to identify the suspected perpetrator of the incident, citizen IS, 31 years old, resident of Pogradec, who is suspected of having had an intimate relationship with the 52-year-old for 3 years.
Citizen IS is suspected of stabbing citizen KT, 52, to death, setting fire to her apartment and leaving the apartment at around 05:00.
At the end of the actions, citizen IS, 31 years old, resident of Pogradec, was arrested in flagrante delicto for the criminal offense of "Murder due to family relations". The procedural materials were referred to the Korça Prosecutor's Office for further actions," the police announced.
