Redjan Rraja was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Supreme Court after being accused of being the author of the assassination attempt against former prosecutor Arjan Ndoji, his driver, Andi Maloku, and Aleksandër Laho alias Pëllumb Muharremit, also known as "Rrumi" of Shijak.
The Supreme Court has upheld the life imprisonment sentence for Redjan Rraja, found guilty of the murder of Andi Maloku and the assassination of former prosecutor Arjan Ndoja, in which his driver Andi Maloku was killed and Aleksandër Laho, known as Pëllumb Muharremi, was injured.
The Criminal Panel of this court decided to dismiss the appeal filed by Rraja, confirming the previous decision of the Special Court of Appeal for Corruption and Organized Crime, dated June 4, 2024.
In the same decision, the High Court also upheld the 35-year prison sentence for Arjol Halilaj, accused of involvement in the same criminal event.
The panel, composed of judges Sokol Binaj, Ilir Panda and Sandër Simoni, considered the appeal of the two convicts as unfounded, thus closing one of the most sensational criminal cases of recent years.
The two convicts had challenged previous judicial decisions, as they had been found guilty by the second instance, but their request was not accepted.
We recall that Redjan Rraja was found guilty of a series of serious charges related to the assassination that occurred in 2019 in the Shkozet area of Durrës.
The main charge against him is the murder of Andi Maloku, who was the driver of prosecutor Arjan Ndoja. Maloku lost his life as a result of injuries sustained during a gun attack on the vehicle he was traveling in.
Another charge is “attempted murder” against prosecutor Arjan Ndoja. According to the investigation, he was the main target of the attack, but managed to survive despite his injuries.
Rraja was also convicted of "attempted murder" against Aleksandër Laho, known as Pëllumb Muharremi, who was in the same vehicle and was injured during the assassination attempt.
According to the investigative file, the event is considered an organized attack, where the vehicle was fired upon with a volley of gunfire, causing one victim and two injuries.
