How did the murder happen?
The mafia assassination attempt on former police officer Roland Rexhepi took place on the morning of July 23, 2009. He was left dead on the spot after being shot with a volley of two automatic firearms, causing his instant death.
At the time, the State Police considered the murder of the former officer a well-organized and planned assassination.
Since the perpetrators were masked, making their identification difficult, forensic experts were only able to obtain DNA evidence found on a motorcycle, on cigarette butts, or on a hood found later.
Their comparison has made it possible to identify the perpetrators of the murder, despite the fact that the two convicts have never admitted to the crime. In the case of Florind Shabani, it was the investigative authorities from Germany who brought his DNA evidence after he was convicted in the German state for narcotics. Albanian authorities have compared his DNA with that of his father, Ismail Shabani.
Based on a genetic profile match found on a cigarette butt at the crime scene in 2009, the Prosecution has declared Florenc Shabani wanted, accusing him of being an accomplice in the murder.
While the State Police had not yet solved the murder of the former officer, two years later, businessman Ilir Rexhepi, the brother of the former anti-crime officer in the Elbasan Police, was killed in a gun attack in the center of Elbasan.
Rexhepi was executed on December 30, 2011. Security camera footage shows a person limping away after the businessman returned fire with a gun, who lost his life moments later.
This murder also remained a mystery for years, until in June of this year the authorities declared citizen Mihalalias Mirgen Toshi wanted, against whom the court has imposed the security measure "Arrest with imprisonment".
Toshi is the main suspect for the crime that occurred, while it still remains a mystery who ordered the murder. The murder of the former anti-crime officer started the ordeal of executions in Elbasan
The execution of former anti-crime officer Roland Rexhepi began the long ordeal of executions in the city of Elbasan. Some of the murders have not yet been solved to this day. While some executions already have perpetrators, it has not yet been revealed who ordered these murders that occurred as a result of clashes between criminal groups.
Bledar Muça, who fled Albania immediately after the crime, was initially suspected as the author of this event, although he was never officially charged by the local prosecutor's office.
Bledar Muça returned to Albania two years later, denying the allegations that he was behind Rexhepi's murder. Three years later, Muçado was the target of an assassination attempt near the Elbasan Courthouse.
Muça was in a car with Florenc Çape when a volley of machine gun fire was fired at them. A police officer who happened to be at the scene was also injured in the attack. At least 29 shell casings were found at the scene, but not the perpetrator, who disappeared without a trace even though the area was very populated at the time.
