The Albanian, Avni Meçja, who killed his partner Alexandra Elena Mocanu with a hammer on October 22, 2022, has been sentenced to 24 years in prison in Bolzano.
Prosecutor Federica Iovene had asked for a life sentence, stating that there is no reason to have a mitigating measure for her. Avni Meçje's defender had asked for the mitigation of the sentence because of the confession, the cooperation with the investigators and the compensation given to the victim's son.
Aggravating factors were judged equivalent to mitigating factors Judges considered aggravating factors (cohabitation and previous conviction) equal to mitigating factors (confession and cooperation with investigators).
For defense lawyer Massimo Dal Ben, this is a balanced sentence. The fact that mitigating factors were considered equal compared to aggravating factors is a positive sign for him.
Two years before the murder, Mecja was reported for ill-treatment by the victim. After some time there was a rapprochement between the two, until the tragic epilogue.
