New details have emerged regarding the serious incident that occurred yesterday evening in the village of Kutalli, Dimal municipality, where a police officer was injured while escorting a 45-year-old man.
Journalist Xhensila Kodra reported that Zamir Skënderi was being transferred from the Fier Police Station to Kuçova, when he is suspected of taking the service weapon from officer Arsen Toska, 20, wounding him and then attempting to escape.
According to the journalist, preliminary investigations have identified two problems in the way the suspect was escorted.
"Two of the mistakes made by the police is the fact that they did not put the handcuffs on him when he was being escorted from Fier to Kuçovë," Kodra told "News 24".
She added that after the incident, the 45-year-old got out of the vehicle and attempted to leave the scene.
"Skënder got out of the car and then tried to escape," the journalist said.
According to reports, there are suspicions that the escort was under the influence of narcotics.
"It is suspected that he was under the influence of narcotics, specifically cocaine, adding that during the search, a quantity of cocaine was also found hidden in his body," said Kodra.
Another problem, according to her, is related to the fact that there was only one police officer in the back of the van.
"The second mistake lies in the fact that only one officer was standing in the back of the van, and not two as there should have been," she stated.
Meanwhile, the argument used by the police was related to the low level of danger of the escorted person.
"The argument used by the police was that considering the criminal offense for which he was being held, 'Disturbance of public peace', there was no danger," the journalist said.
After the escape attempt, Zamir Skënderi was neutralized and arrested by the other two officers in the vehicle, while the injured police officer was initially transported to the Berat Regional Hospital and then to the Trauma Hospital in Tirana for more specialized treatment.
