
Details have emerged from yesterday's operation in Elbasan, where 3 people accused of document forgery and arms trafficking were arrested.
The police arrested Elban Coniku, Dhimitër Peqini and Artan Lila. During the operation, 3 Kalashnikov firearms, 3,320 live ammunition and 1 grenade were seized, which the investigation shows were to be trafficked towards North Macedonia. The police also seized 20 means of identification such as passports, IDs and licenses, from various countries. Among them were Albanian means of identification.
It is learned that the investigations resulted in the group having produced several biometric devices with identities of people in the justice system.
Dhimitër Peqini and his two associates have been previously investigated for document forgery and arms trafficking.
The investigation began four months ago. The documents were produced in an apartment in the city of Elbasan, transformed into a real laboratory. From the data, it turns out that the seized documents are very close to the real ones, as they have many identical elements, which raises suspicions that we are also dealing with a collaboration with Civil Registry employees and the production of identification documents.
"Specialists from the Economic Crimes Investigation Section and those from the Illicit Trafficking Investigation Section of the Elbasan Local Police Directorate, in close cooperation with the Elbasan Prosecutor's Office, after a 4-month investigation, using special methods, finalized the police operation codenamed "Organizer".
As a result of the operation, citizen Dh. P., 59 years old, resident of Elbasan, who was organizing the trafficking of weapons to the RMV and the forgery of documents, was arrested and put in handcuffs.
Also, during the operation, citizens EC, 52 years old, resident of Gramsh, and AL, 47 years old, resident of Elbasan, were arrested and handcuffed.
The investigation revealed that the 52-year-old was collaborating with the 59-year-old on arms trafficking, while the 47-year-old was collaborating with the 59-year-old on document forgery.
During the search of the 47-year-old's apartment, the Police services found and seized 20 suspected forged documents (Albanian, Bulgarian and Macedonian) and equipment used for this criminal activity.
During the "Organizer" operation, in the village of Çekin, Gramsh, the Police services stopped vehicles driven by citizens Dh. P. and EC. During the checks, 3 Kalashnikov firearms, 3320 live ammunition and 1 grenade were found hidden in the luggage, which the investigation shows were to be trafficked towards North Macedonia.
Further, during the investigations it emerged that citizen Dh. P., in collaboration with citizen AL, forged various documents (passports, identity cards, residence permits and certificates of skills), both Albanian and foreign, in the latter's apartment.
Investigations continue, under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, to identify and bring to criminal responsibility other citizens involved in these criminal activities.
"The procedural materials were referred to the Prosecutor's Office at the Court of First Instance, General Jurisdiction of Elbasan, for further action," the police announced.
