A serious incident occurred today in Maliq where a house was destroyed by flames.
The fire engulfed the apartment and the mother and her 14-year-old son died of asphyxiation. The two victims have been identified as Merjeme Azizllari, 40, and her 14-year-old son, Luka Azizllari.
Meanwhile, the other child, about 6 years old, is in critical condition. It is reported that the minor daughter of the family was asphyxiated and suffered severe burns to her body.
It is learned that in serious condition, the girl is heading to Tirana to the burn ward at the QSUT.
The 6-year-old was found outside the house conscious, while her brother, the 14-year-old, was in a coma and died in the Korça hospital. Their mother, who was in the apartment with her children, was found asphyxiated with no signs of life in the kitchen doorway.
"Around 1:30 p.m., in block no. 3, Maliq, a fire broke out in the apartment of citizen VA. As a result, citizen MA and her two minor children, 14 and 6 years old, were injured and immediately sent to the hospital for medical assistance.
It is suspected that as a result of asphyxiation, citizen MA died in the hospital. Police and fire services were able to extinguish the fire.
"The investigation team is at the scene and is working to determine the causes of the fire and legally document the case," the police announced.
