"We are building Grokipedia." With this announcement, Elon Musk confirmed his challenge to Wikipedia.
In a post on X, the South African entrepreneur confirmed rumors that have been circulating in recent months.
"It will be a huge improvement over Wikipedia. Frankly, it's a necessary step towards xAI's goal of understanding the Universe," the billionaire says.
The name of the billionaire's new venture is inspired by xAI's chatbot, Grok.
For some time now, Musk has been targeting the popular online encyclopedia, accusing it of being highly biased and providing users around the world with false information.
The term "Wokepedia" has been used on more than one occasion, a prime example. Indeed, Mr. Tesla's accusations have mostly concerned issues such as racism, gender discrimination, and rainbow issues.
No details on the launch schedule have been released yet, but the project is already in development. It is also unclear whether the content will be generated by artificial intelligence.
Grokipedia's goal is to become a better open-source knowledge repository than Wikipedia. Some points remain unclear, such as "correcting" Nazi and anti-Semitic statements.
In recent months, Grokipedia has been at the center of international debate for praising Adolf Hitler and advocating the need for a second Holocaust. Musk dismissed the malfunction as a programming error.
The Grokipedia announcement represents Musk's latest foray into the world of information and media.
After buying Twitter in 2022 and changing its name to X in 2023, Mr. Tesla has consistently emphasized free speech and alternative narratives as core elements of X. Earlier this year, xAI formally acquired X in an all-stock deal, aligning its artificial intelligence initiative with the social media platform.
