Tirana, September 27, 2025, yesterday evening, in the Millennium Cinema hall, after the TIFF awards ceremony, in collaboration with the Tirana Film Institute, the premiere of the restored version of the film "Freedom or Death" (1979), one of the important works in the history of Albanian film, was shown in the presence of the public, artists, researchers and lovers of Albanian cinematography.
This project was carried out by the Central State Film Archive (CSF) as part of the mission to rescue, restore and digitize the national film heritage fund. The technical process included the restoration of the original 35 mm film, the improvement of the sound and image, returning the film to a condition worthy of the screen and for new generations.
A little history
The film directed by Ibrahim Muçaj and Kristaq Mitros had its first premiere on May 5, 1980. The screenplay was written by Vath Koreshi, Composer Kujtim Laro, Cinematographer Petraq Lubonja, Painter Arben Basha, Editor Shpresa Papavllo, Voice Lirim Mulosmani, number of acts 15, 130 minutes, shot entirely in Gjirokastra.

The film is positively evaluated by everyone with some partial remarks and suggestions. The film is positively evaluated with some partial remarks and suggestions.
This is just one of the many titles that will follow the same fate, to make Albania's film treasure alive and tangible.
The restoration of this film was the next restoration project carried out by the Central State Film Archive with the support of the “Classic Film Season” program of ACE – Association des Cinémathèques Européennes.
"The digital restoration of "Freedom or Death" was carried out at the "Augustus Color" studios in Rome with the original elements scanned in 4K at AQSHF.
