"K'cimi i Tropoja", officially part of UNESCO

After the positive evaluation by the UNESCO Evaluation Organization, during the 19th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, in Asuncion, Paraguay, "K'cimi i Tropoja" is now part of the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

"K'cimi i Tropoja" is another unique Albanian element that is presented for this list, which promotes Albanian cultural wealth on the international stage.

"K'cim i Tropoja", also known as "K'cim Veni", is a festive dance that has maintained its vitality over the centuries. It includes elements of performing arts, oral traditions, rituals and festive events. Throughout the years, this tradition has remained a symbol of identity and unity for the inhabitants of Tropoja and the Highlands of Gjakova.

The dance is performed at various ceremonial and social occasions, such as weddings, engagements and local festivals. His rhythmic movements, accompanied by the tupana, zipper and flute, symbolize the energy and joy that characterize this community. Performances often include traditional clothing and red or yellow scarves, thus maintaining the element's authenticity.

"K'cimi i Tropoja" remains alive through transmission from generation to generation, both in spontaneous contexts and through inclusion in local educational curricula. This ensures its continuity and development, turning it into a national symbol of Albanian cultural identity.

The inclusion of the "K'cimit i Tropoja" in the prestigious UNESCO list started through the initiative of the Association "Kercimi i Tropoja" in cooperation with the Municipality of Tropoja and the Ministry of Economy, Culture and Innovation, as well as the support of the Albanian-American foundation for Development (AADF). The file was prepared with the wide participation of experts and the local community.

The documentation and completion of the file included field research, the creation of a detailed description of the element, the collection of archival materials and testimonies from the community.

The registration of this element in the Representative List of UNESCO helps in the international promotion of the Albanian cultural heritage, protecting it for future generations. This is another big step for Tropoja and for Albania, which proves the universal value of our traditions.
