Serbia buys the painting with Albanian motifs in London for 350 thousand euros

The Serbian government has bought for the national museum a painting by a Montenegrin author with Albanian motifs. The work entitled "Bashibuzuku" realized by the Montenegrin artist Paja Jovanovic in 1858 was bought by the Belgrade authorities in an auction in London for the amount of 350 thousand euros.

The money is part of the Serbian government fund for the preservation of cultural heritage.

The painting has Albanian motifs and according to the author's biographers, it was made in Montenegro and reflects the Albanians who lived in this country centuries ago.

Jovanovic also has a number of other works made in different cities of Albania and which reflect Albania under the Ottoman occupation.

The Belgrade Museum announced in a press release that other works of Serbian culture will be part of the artistic fund of this institution.

The Serbian president stated in an interview to the media that the government will provide a fund of 30 million euros to buy at auctions works that, according to him, belong to the Serbian cultural heritage.

"I want all our artifacts that were taken out of the country to return to Serbia, because this is what an independent, serious and responsible state does. Let's return the father to our country, pay as much as you can and give these works to the City Museum, the National Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art, he told Happy TV.

Vucic emphasized that these items belong to Serbia and all its citizens.

"We will return them to our country, be it paintings, sculptures and everything that belongs to the cultural treasure of the Republic of Serbia," he emphasized.
