Incident in front of the Prime Minister's Office

An incident was recorded this Friday shortly before the start of the 48th protest in front of the Prime Minister's Office, where citizens are demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama.

Moments before the Prime Minister's escort left the Prime Minister's Office building, a citizen participating in the protest approached the head of government's vehicle, protesting.

As can be seen in the video, the citizen was stopped by State Police officers. Protesters present at the scene claimed that he was forced into the police vehicle, while so far there has been no official reaction from the authorities regarding the reasons for the escort.

A few minutes later, Prime Minister Edi Rama's escort left the Prime Minister's Office, while the protest continued normally on the boulevard, where for more than a month citizens have been gathering every day demanding the removal of the head of government.

Ky do iki me turp, i lidhur pas karriges, por karrigia do ia hajë kokën”, tha emigranti.

Protest continues

One of the organizers of the protest in front of the Prime Minister's Office, Edison Lika, called on citizens to mobilize to continue the protests, while declaring that the plenary session of July 23 will be the last for the current MPs.

During his speech to the protesters, Lika said that the last session of this parliamentary session will not only be the closing of the Assembly's proceedings, but, according to him, also the end of the political mandate of the current MPs.

He emphasized that the decision on this does not belong to the political class, but to the citizens who, according to him, can impose change through protest.

" On July 23rd there will be the last plenary session. But that session will be the last session for them. Since they will not return to the Assembly. But who decides? I tell you; you decide! Here we decide! ", declared Lika.

In his speech, the protest organizer appealed to citizens to join the organized rallies, arguing that only through participation and citizen pressure can the change demanded by the protesters be achieved.

The protest in front of the Prime Minister's Office is taking place for the 48th consecutive day. Participants are demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama, the removal of the political class, and changes to the system of governance, while organizers have stated that the rallies will continue until their demands are met.

Protest in front of Parliament on July 23

Organizers announced that the rally will take place on the morning of July 23, at the same time as the last plenary session before the summer break.

The civic protest, which has been taking place in front of the Prime Minister's Office for 48 days, will be moved to the Albanian Parliament on Thursday, July 23. Unlike other days, the rally will not be held in the afternoon, but in the morning, at the same time as the last plenary session of this parliamentary session.

The announcement was made from the protest podium in front of the Prime Minister's Office, where organizers called on citizens to be present during the morning of July 23, arguing that the presence of protesters during the plenary session will have more effect.

One of the young people who spoke said that the change in schedule was decided after consultation with the protest participants and that the aim is for the rally to take place at the moment when the deputies will be in the Assembly for the last session, before the summer break.

"I wanted to clarify the call for July 23. Our presence during the day is very important, as we have high efficiency with our presence. Participation every day during the day was not possible, so I came up with the proposal that we have a date and go out in the morning that day. The answer I got in the survey was only for one day to go out in the morning. It is the last session that day and we will wish you a happy holiday ," he said.

This is not the first time that a civic protest has moved to the Parliament. On July 2, during another plenary session, protesters gathered outside the Parliament building, where tensions and clashes with police forces occurred. Following the incidents, police arrested 23 people.

The July 23 protest is expected to take place on the last day of the Assembly's proceedings for this parliamentary session, while organizers aim to bring citizens back to Parliament in one of the most important sessions before the interruption of parliamentary activity for the summer holidays.

Activist Edison Lika declared from the podium set up in front of the Prime Minister's Office that the protest will continue until all demands raised by the organizers and participants in the rally are met.

In his speech to the protesters, Lika said that the protest movement has been clear in its stance over the past 48 days and that it will not back down until the declared objectives are achieved. He once again listed the main demands of the protest, starting from the annulment of Law 21/2024, the resignation of the Prime Minister and the government, the establishment of a transitional government, and the holding of free elections.

According to Lika, the protesters also aim to guarantee equal conditions and freedoms for all citizens, emphasizing that the protest will continue until these demands are met.

" We are very clear about our demands, for 48 days in a row, we will be here until the annulment of Law 21/2024 is a fact, until the resignation of the Prime Minister and the government is a fact, until the transitional government leads the country to free elections after 36 years, until we guarantee equal conditions and freedoms for each of us ," said activist Edison Lika during his speech in front of the Prime Minister's Office.
