Today marks 9 years since the canonization of Mother Teresa, the Albanian-born humanitarian who dedicated her life to the poor and vulnerable in the world. On September 5, 2016, Pope Francis declared her a saint during a ceremony at the Vatican, recognizing two miracles performed after her death as proof of her holiness.
This saint "spoke" Albanian and there were thousands of Albanians from Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro and many other countries in the square. September 5 has been declared an official holiday in Albania. This date also coincides with the day the Albanian saint passed away, precisely on September 5, 1997 in Calcutta, India.
On this day, a message also came from Prime Minister Edi Rama, who wrote that Mother Teresa was a holy woman with a small body and a soul as big as the world.
"Good morning and with this photo of Saint Teresa, the holy woman with a small body and a soul as big as the world itself, I wish you prosperity and good health on this day of her sainthood."
Mother Teresa has been an example of solidarity between peoples for the whole world, receiving the Nobel Peace Prize and being declared an Honorary Citizen of the USA. She herself said that she was Albanian by origin, Indian by citizenship, but that she belonged to the whole world. Mother Teresa, who has been described by the Vatican as the Saint of Communication, has shown that dialogue is truly possible and she truly spoke to everyone.
She has been honored with the highest awards and honors, including: the 1962 Ramon Magsaysay Peace Prize and the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize. On September 6, 2017, Teresa and Saint Francis Xavier were named co-patrons of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Calcutta.
