The Prime Minister continues to be the protagonist in foreign media
In the latest episode of the podcast " East Side Stories ", part of the "European Voices" project, journalists Martyna Czarnowska and Thomas Seifert conducted an extensive interview with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, focused on the European integration process, regional politics and external influences in Albania.
Among the issues raised, Rama's comments on Jared Kushner, Alex Soros, and his relations with the United States particularly stood out.
Rama was asked about high-profile projects in Albania, including Jared Kushner’s planned investments in the Vlora area, as well as his ties to Alex Soros. The prime minister stressed that his relationships with both are personal and long-term: “ Both (Kushner and Soros) are my friends. They may not like each other, but that’s up to them, not me. I’ve known both of them for a long time, and these friendships and investments will survive regardless of politics .”
Rama underlined that none of these relations are related to political preferences in the US, saying that Albania is "the home of every friend we have". On the other hand, he "stabbed" the US: " The Americans have no patience, they settle things with bombs and then preach ".
But the fact that Rama is torpedoing the US and boasting about Soros shows that something is troubling Babloku. Evil mouths are saying that the US has put him in a red circle, and the fact that he is trying to play along and send messages only adds to this suspicion.
Excerpt from the conversation
1. Why should Europe accept Albania?
“I think this is related to the big picture. It is not just for Albania, but for the entire region, the Western Balkans, and the European Union itself. It is not sustainable for this part of Europe to remain disconnected from the EU. It is a unique situation in history: the EU has an external border and an internal border, and within this internal border is the Western Balkans. For reasons related to Europe’s security, its cohesion and its unity, it is absolutely clear to me that there is no other way than for the Western Balkan countries to join the EU.”
2. What has changed since Macron blocked the negotiations?
“As you said, it was a different time then. Unfortunately, the EU had lost sight of the future and the strategic importance of enlargement, which I call ‘reunification’, because it is not real enlargement when it comes to the Western Balkans that are in the middle. Now times have changed. Many things have changed, most importantly the level of security that the EU has for itself. Today the EU does not feel as self-sufficient as it did a few years ago. I hope it stays that way, because things can change again.”
3. 2030 deadline for membership
"I didn't say it like that, template. I said it based on an agreement we have with the European Commission to close negotiations within 2027. There is a plan, deadlines and many work blocks that need to be addressed. So it's not just us, it's a joint process with the Commission. The 2030 deadline comes counting the two years of ratification in the parliaments of the member states. Can it change? Of course, but if it changes, it won't be our fault."
4. Is Albania institutionally ready?
"Will we become Austria in two years? I'm telling you: No, not at all. But the accession process is related to clear principles and criteria that must be met in total. The struggle with this or that problem is endless for every country. We will continue even after accession. At the moment I see no risk of 'non-digestibility', but later we will have to do even more."
5. SPAK and the cost of justice reform
"It's not something we didn't foresee. I said before SPAK existed that we needed a justice mechanism that would prove its independence by investigating, indicting and convicting regardless of who the party is. It's not a walk in the park, it's painful, it's bitter, but it's the only way. Is it perfect? No. Do they make mistakes? Absolutely. But one thing should never be touched: the independence we've given them."
6. Vlora Airport / Narta Lagoon
"I don't know which officials you spoke to, but we have been very clear that the project is not harmful. There has been an airport there for a long time, we are not building an airport where there has never been one. I understand people who think that countries should not build anything, just preserve nature, I respect that opinion, but it is not feasible. It needs to be built and a balance needs to be found. The airport will open next year and investments will also start next year."
7. Kushner-Soros
“Yes, both Kushner and Soros are my friends. They may not like each other, although I’m not sure, but they may not like each other. That’s their business, not mine. I knew Jared at a time when it was unclear whether his father-in-law would go to prison or the White House. And it didn’t matter to me then, nor does it matter now, because I think this is a long-term friendship and investment that will outlive Trump himself. It’s not a political friendship at all.

8. Bashkëpunimi rajonal dhe kritikat e Brukselit
“Në këtë drejtim kam një rekord shumë të pastër: s’kam hyrë në asnjë konflikt me askënd. Sot gjërat janë shumë ndryshe nga e kaluara, shumë më paqësore dhe ka më shumë bashkëpunim. Në 10 vitet e fundit është bërë më shumë se në 1000 vitet para tyre. Nuk duhet të ankohemi, ata në Bruksel duhet ta shohin gotën gjysmë plot.”
9. Balancimi mes Perëndimit, Rusisë, investitorëve
“Sa më shumë e do BE-në, aq më e ashpër bëhet. Ne jemi shumë të vegjël për të zgjedhur anë, duhet të flasim me të gjithë. Me Rusinë kemi një histori të veçantë: u ndamë në vitin 1960 sepse ne donim të mbanim Stalinin, ata jo. Për këtë arsye në 35 vite demokraci as ne s’kemi shkuar në Rusi, as ata s’kanë ardhur. Dhe nuk na mungon. Por BE-ja duhet të flasë me Rusinë. Nuk mund t’ia delegojë politikën e jashtme Amerikës. Rusia është fqinji i Europës, jo i SHBA-ve.”
10. Rreziku nga Rusia
“Nuk jam aspak i shqetësuar. Nuk besoj se Rusia do të sulmojë një vend të BE-së. Nuk po arrin të mposhtë ushtrinë ukrainase aty ku ka ambicie imperialiste, jo më të sulmojë BE-në. Provokimet janë pjesë e strategjisë.”
11. A pritshmëri të tepruara për BE-në?
“Keni parë ndonjë që do të martohet dhe ka pritshmëri të ulëta? Nuk mund t’ia ulësh pritshmëritë askujt që do të martohet. Është mirë të kesh pritshmëri të larta, të japin energji për të bërë gjëra. BE-ja është burim energjie pozitive për vendin.”
12. Procesi i negociatave si transformim
“Njerëzit nuk e kuptojnë se negociatat me BE-në janë një proces i jashtëzakonshëm transferimi dijeje. Nuk bëjmë detyra për t’i bërë qejfin Brukselit, por për ta ndryshuar Shqipërinë, për ta bërë më europiane dhe më demokratike. Asnjë fuqi tjetër nuk t’i mëson institucionet, amerikanët s’kanë durim, ata ‘i rregullojnë punët me bomba’ dhe pastaj predikojnë. Vetëm BE-ja e ka këtë proces të gjatë. Nëse heq BE-në nga ekuacioni i Shqipërisë në këto vite, do të ishim një vend krejt tjetër – shumë më keq. Është plot me ‘ilaçe të hidhura’, por janë ilaçe, jo helm.”
13. Pastrimi i parave / ndërtimi në Tiranë
“Nëse shikon shifrat e parave të drogës që pastrohen në Europë, Shqipëria është shumë e vogël për t’i larë ato miliona. Sigurisht që kemi probleme, po jo në atë shkallë sa disa duan të bëjnë bujë europiane.”
14. Shqipëria, vend me shumicë myslimane në BE
“Nëse të gjithë myslimanët do të ishin si myslimanët e Shqipërisë, Allahu dhe Jezusi do të ishin më të lumturit për njerëzimin. Unë jam katolik; gruaja ime është myslimane; dy fëmijët e mëdhenj janë ortodoksë; i vogli do të zgjedhë vetë.
