In Albania, Prime Minister Edi Rama repeated today in a press conference the thesis that responsibility is individual, when he was asked about the investigations on the cases of incinerators or the sterilization contract, which have led to the arrests of former high officials of his governments. He also denied having any problem with the police's TIMS system, which is suspected to have had unauthorized interventions. Regarding the reactions of the Greek authorities to the issue of the elected mayor of the Municipality of Himara, Fredi Beleri, he stated categorically that no kind of intervention on the justice system will find support.
Former Deputy Prime Minister Arben Ahmetaj is on the run, declared internationally wanted. The former Minister of the Environment, Lefter Koka, and the former Socialist MP Alqi Blako, are in jail awaiting the end of the judicial process. Another former deputy minister, that of Health Klodian Rjepaj, was also recently arrested for the contract of sterilization of surgical equipment, while the Special Court has stated that former minister Ilir Beqaj and former Minister of Finance Shkëlqim Cani should be investigated. a high number of officials or former officials, of the lowest levels, have also been arrested, under various charges, mainly for abuse of office and corruption.
However, Prime Minister Edi Rama insists that the responsibility is individual: " If I could go back 100 times, 100 times I would support these public-private partnerships that we have made, 100 times, because the deeds are what remain. The important thing is that, for example, sterilization is one of the contracts and one of the most beautiful things that we have done, because with that contract and with that transformation we have changed Albanian health in its most delicate link, which are the interventions in people's bodies . If in the process of that contract, certain individuals have entered into sin with the people and the country we serve, they will pay. This is how it works. They will pay ."
But the discovery of abuses in cases of concessions and public private partnerships, did not come like a bolt from the open sky. At least the media have repeatedly denounced them. However, it does not appear that any preliminary verification was carried out by the state structures, even when the contract, such as the sterilization one, began to consume additional funds from the state budget, which according to the Special Prosecutor's Office, could reach 70 million euros by the end hers. Whereas, for Mr. Rama, his moral responsibility " is towards the Albanians to give them a justice that does exactly this job ", he declared.
The Prime Minister treated the suspicions of internal interference in the TIMS system of the police as a purely technical issue: "The internal investigation has been completed and there is no concern. That serious event didn't happen because it didn't even have a chance to happen because in an attempt to make a backup, it turned out that there is no backup at all. So, it's an internal technical problem. They have their job and in that job they are monitored. Even the investigation was done so that this does not exist ".
Despite the Prime Minister's statements, the Police Oversight Agency has reported to the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana, for unauthorized intervention, while the American embassy itself, which made the fact public, offered a few days ago to help the investigations.
