Edi Rama

By hitting Veliaj, Rama is sending a double message...

The arrest of Erion Veliaj has caused a political storm that has raised many questions, not only about the justice process in Albania, but also about the internal relations of politics and power.

As one of the most important figures in the Socialist Party and a strong supporter of Edi Rama, Veliaj is a highly influential politician, known for his projects in Tirana. But, after his arrest, there is a high possibility that this moment is part of a larger political game, where the consequences extend beyond a simple possible "crime".

Edi Rama's attacks on SPAK, whose head is Altin Dumani, appear to be part of a strategy to maintain control over the judiciary and maintain a balance favorable to his interests. With this move, Rama is not only challenging the authority of an independent institution, but is also sending a clear message to his party and the opposition: "No political figure is untouchable, but only those who are useful for the stability of my power."

But there is another element that cannot be ignored in this story, and that is the possibility of a secret agreement between Rama and Sali Berisha for the upcoming elections. In an effort to maintain political balance and ensure a "managed hostility", Rama may have made a move to reach an agreement with Berisha, creating a calm relationship to give him a greater opportunity to return to being a significant factor, but without the risk of a strong opposition.

In this context, Veliaj's arrest could be a strategic move to fulfill this possible agreement, where Rama is sacrificing a powerful ally to preserve the relationship with Berisha and to ensure a politically favorable balance for the May elections. Veliaj, who has always had strong support from Rama and has been one of his closest figures, could now be the victim of a grand game, where the goal is beyond justice and accusations.

If this hypothesis is true, then we are dealing with a clear manipulation of the political process and justice to secure a favorable deal for the government. Rama, by offering Veliaj's "surrender", may have sought to preserve a secret agreement with Berisha, where both parties could find a common interest in controlling the government, while the citizens of Albania remain ignorant of the true consequences of this great game.

By hitting Veliaj, Rama is sending a double message: on the one hand, he is showing that no political figure is above the law and that any abusive action will be punished; but on the other hand, he is using this "sacrifice" to secure greater political benefits for his own interests and to maintain the 'balanced relationship' with the opposition, led by Berisha. This is a move that has more to do with political maneuvering and the upcoming elections, than with a pure process of justice.

In the end, this story raises a big question: is justice in Albania a tool to reward or punish politicians, or is it a force that should stand above all political interests? If Veliaj's arrest is part of a deal between Rama and Berisha, then Albania could face a big risk: the creation of a system that uses justice as a tool to maintain power and protect personal interests, instead of following a real path towards cleaning up corruption and strengthening the rule of law./ Pamphlet
