The General Secretary of DP, Gazmet Bardhi, has reacted regarding the isolation of Sali Berisha. He sees the decision to leave him under "house arrest" as a legal violation. According to him, the whole process is political.
" Exceeding the need, reasonable actions and abuse of austerity measures turns itself into injustice. The opposition really does not have a battle with justice, but the opposite of this should be even more vocal: justice cannot have a battle, beyond what the law dictates, with the opposition. And in this direction, a member of parliament cannot be suspended from exercising his function, which is defacto achieved if he is prohibited from communicating and fulfilling his political activity even in isolation, because this is not expressly allowed by the law. The abuse of the law in this case, by isolating Sali Berisha in conditions that do not even apply to prisoners, is clearly unreasonable, unnecessary and an excess that leaves the taste of political persecution towards the opposition ", writes Bardhi.
According to him, the political persecution of the opposition would place Albania next to Russia, and not next to NATO or EU countries.
" In a NATO member country, in a candidate country for EU membership, anyone should be equal before the law, anyone can be investigated and if found guilty be punished. But in a NATO member country, in a candidate country for EU membership, no one can be persecuted politically, no one should be treated beyond the standards that the law allows and are necessary in a society with justice and equality. Abuse, excess and lack of reason are always INJUSTICE! ", he says.
