The Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, held a meeting with women and girls on the occasion of March 8, International Women's Day. During his speech, he congratulated all women and praised their role in the development of society.
Berisha emphasized that the contribution of Albanian women is very important and often greater due to their commitment both in professional life and in the family.
"Your contribution, the contribution of Albanian women is manifold compared to the contribution of men, boys, and this is a reality today. Today, their contribution to the development of a society has been about twice as great as that of men because you face 24 hours a day with work in your professions, but also work in your families, which is a real contribution to the whole society," said Berisha.
He also touched on the issue of gender equality, emphasizing that, according to him, the obligations towards women are great and that society must confront patriarchal mentalities.
"The wall of patriarchy is the most important violator of human rights anywhere in the world. The fight against this wall is the noblest fight, it is the most important human fight for equality, for dignity, for human rights. This five thousand year old wall must be torn down and women and girls and all those who believe in their extraordinary strength and role in the family and society must do everything to reduce this wall every day," said Berisha.
He further emphasized that equality between women and men is a necessary condition for a just society.
"Without establishing equality between man and woman, brother and sister, mother and father, society can never be a just society, a society of high human principles and ideals," added the leading democrat.
In his speech, Berisha also stated that, according to him, women and girls are the ones who are harmed the most by what he describes as the regime.
