On January 22, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the signing ceremony of the “Peace Board,” an international structure proposed by US President Donald Trump to oversee the next phase of his plan for the Gaza Strip, is expected to take place. The ceremony will mark one of the most important moments in this diplomatic-political process, which has sparked fierce debates among Western allies and other global actors.
Israeli journalist Barak Ravid has shared a notice reportedly sent by the White House to the leaders of the invited countries, confirming the date, time and context of the signing ceremony in Davos. According to the notice, the ceremony will mark the formal start of the work of the Board – conceived as an international governing body on the implementation of plans for the demilitarization, reconstruction and interim administration of the Gaza Strip after the conflict.
The composition of the Peace Board remains unclear and contentious. Some world leaders have confirmed that they will participate, while others have expressed skepticism or warned that they will follow the process carefully before deciding on their commitment. The United Nations has also expressed concerns that the creation of such a body, outside of existing multilateral structures, could undermine the UN’s role and mandate in the peace and reconstruction process.
In this context, it is announced that the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, will also be present at the Davos Summit and is expected to participate in the signing ceremony of the Peace Board.
