Tirana City Council member Alfred Muharremi has explained the reasons why he did not participate in the vote to dismiss Erion Veliaj from the position of mayor. He said that his absence was a coincidence and not a political stance.

"After the decision of the General Assembly of the Socialist Party, which requested that Tirana go to elections and have a new mayor, the group of socialist councilors gathered. I was one of the signatories for the extraordinary meeting for Veliaj. During the Municipal Council meeting, after I gave my speech, I thought that the floor would pass to the group leaders, as usually happens. For personal needs, I went out for a few minutes and when I returned, the voting had ended," explained Muharremi.

Muharremi emphasized that if he had been in the hall, he would have voted in favor of Veliaj's dismissal.

"If I were there, I would definitely have voted, because it is a political decision. We seek to be at the service of the citizens and we want Tirana to have an elected mayor," he told "A2 CNN".
