The former head of the State Intelligence Service, Fatos Klosi, commented yesterday on the news published two days ago in the Serbian media about the capture of a Serbian spy who worked for the Albanian secret service.
According to him, the news seems fabricated, since the secret services do not publish such news related to their activities. Furthermore, Klosi showed during a TV interview yesterday that Albania had its own agents in Serbia, while emphasizing that the interest was not in their military bases, but issues related to politics.
-Mr. Klosi, this weekend the Serbian media claim that members of the Security and Information Agency (BIA) have discovered and destroyed another espionage network on the territory of Serbia. According to them, it is suspected that the arrested person is a collaborator of the State Intelligence Service of Albania. Do you believe it or not?
I do not believe. The work and services are secret, whether the defects or the successes. To say that they have a work object for us. We are more interested in knowing their political objects than military ones. Today, both Serbs and Kosovars are boasting that they are buying weapons, and this is not news. We must be calm.
- Did Albania have a Serbian agent in Serbia?
Albania has had its own Serbian agents in Serbia. We had old and new associates with specific tasks if there was a problem that needed to be solved. The biggest problem during my leadership was the war in Kosovo and the problems in North Macedonia. During that period we were more informed because we had more access to Kosovo. NATO had several stages of intervention in Kosovo from the air, the ground intervention that would be done through Albania was also discussed. They monitored the roads and bridges and it was predicted to be a difficult intervention, but as luck would have it, Milosevic surrendered.
-How powerful is BIA?
It had one of the most powerful services and in Europe it needed a lot of information because it was between two camps and it needed a lot of information from both sides. The more information, the more flexible a policy becomes. All those who have been discovered in the west as agents of Russia have been in some way not communists, but sympathizers. So the factor was ideology, today the ideological factor no longer exists. It is monetary or even voluntary.
-During the war in Kosovo when you were in service, what was the most difficult moment?
The whole war has been a difficult moment. The most difficult moment was when Milosevic was not giving up. We kept in touch with KLA. We acted as mediators between the two parties. It was a very large bombing enterprise in Yugoslavia because it shot down US planes. At that time, we were engaged in a valuable work that later materialized with the independence of Kosovo.
- Since the conflict in North Macedonia, from the bombing of Yugoslavia, what is the pledge that has not been realized?
They have more or less been realized. Kosovo's independence was the cap of all things. No one knew that the bombing by the US would take place. But we were informed in advance that the bombing would take place.
-What about the wave of Kosovo Albanians who came to Albania, how do I manage SHIK?
SEE, it's not like he did anything. We left at their disposal some warehouses that we did not use. SHIK is subordinate to the prime minister and is the one who decides how the collaborations will be. Article number 1 states that the work of SHIK is secret. I haven't had any contact since I left. All those important people left behind me because they considered them as my people. SHIK is not a constitutional body, even there it is mentioned with two different names, once SHIK and once SHISH. Cooperation between institutions in my time has been good. Even the Prime Ministers did not listen to me, but there were no contradictions. SEE if it is not heard, it is the same as if it does not exist.
-Is it a surprise that a BIA employee works for SHISH?
No wonder they were successful in making one of them their own. We have no hostile intentions towards Serbia. Serbia is a bigger country than us, we have made an open policy with the idea of Open Balkans. We have made a peace-loving policy. It is no surprise that an employee of a secret service is persuaded to work for another service.
-Meanwhile, according to you, the arrival of 2 'Black Hawk' helicopters in Albania, what does it mean?
Helicopters are used more in times of peace than in times of war. It's the planes that bombard with shells. It is an achievement for me, it shows that the government is paying attention to defense and is investing in defense.
- Where should the attention be more, to the Military Intelligence Service or to SHIK?
To both. Cooperation between institutions is needed. We also collaborated and it was very good, we couldn't have done it better. At that time, the media was not as bothered as it is today. We met with the Minister of the Interior once a week, we talked because there were various problems.
- I should dwell a little on education, were you a teacher in physics?
It's been two years since I left. There were poor students and the position of the teacher is not what it used to be. Today, teachers are considered corrupt. Society is degrading and the teacher is degrading for himself because they are not motivated and the school suffers from this. A degree used to give you a good place in society, but today it is different. In physics, there were good students and everyone had a guaranteed job, the faculty was a place that provided a profession and a secure job. Physics in secondary schools is a week and how what do they expect from this,
-What appeal do you have?
The best must be selected and have a secure job so they don't run out. To be motivated to go to school and not to go who can. They are more advanced countries, such as Germany, and education is planned, schools and universities welcome a certain number of students in a branch every year./TODAY
