Party of the Socialist Party, Arben Malaj: Dritëro Agolli's party

On the 34th anniversary of the founding of the Socialist Party, congratulations and reflections on the journey of this political force have not been lacking. Former minister and one of the well-known figures of the left, Arben Malaj, has congratulated all socialists and expressed gratitude for those who, according to him, love the homeland with sincerity.

Malaj recalled the support he received in the early 1990s from the great writer Dritëro Agolli, describing him as a powerful voice in the SP's efforts to become a winning force, especially during the difficult years of opposition (1992-1997). He criticized the way in which, according to him, the party's structure changed after 2005, moving from a collegial model towards a centralized leadership, especially after the constitutional changes of 2008.

"I had my clashes in the SP. But I have never left for another party. Loyalty and gratitude to the Socialists have kept me here," Malaj told "News 24", adding that "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, and I feel that way today."

He was critical of leaders with long mandates, comparing them to historical authoritarian figures, and emphasized that “the problem is not the people, but the leaders.” In the end, Malaj gave a clear message: “Better an ‘old jacket’ than new designer clothes that smell bad,” alluding to the false image that, according to him, is being built in Albanian politics today.

Arben Malaj, former SP minister: I felt Dritëro Agolli's support in the early 1990s and I am very grateful. The SP was in opposition in 1992-1997 and was facing a bloody regime and Agolli was a strong voice on what the SP should do to win. Today the SP has returned to Rilindja and the most critical moment was in 2008, when the party leaders became party owners. Until 2005, the SP was an example for other parties, while later the Socialist Party made the leader powerful.

Happy birthday to all socialists, gratitude to those who sincerely love their homeland. I have had my clashes in the SP, I see. There is an expression that what does not kill you makes you stronger, so today I am like that, so strong. I have never left for another party, because my gratitude to the socialists is great. Political leaders with long mandates are authoritarian leaders, Hitler, Mussolini, etc. have lasted long, but this does not show that you are democratic. The people are not to blame, but the leaders. The people voted not only for Rama, but also for Berisha, Majko, Meta, etc. Better an "old jacket" than new designer clothes that smell bad. The state has been captured, while crime appoints high government cadres. There is a lack of state-building culture among politicians today. There is no longer meritocracy in Rilindja.
