Fredi Beleri, in his capacity as an MEP, held a meeting in Athens, from where he addressed an appeal to those he considered members of the Greek national minority to register for the May 11 elections and vote.
"It is very important that we all register and show our strength through voting, because never forget that our homeland is there. Besides, this is what my adventure showed. This is what 245 thousand Greeks appreciated in my fight for my homeland. Remember, your parents are waiting for you, your grandparents' graves are waiting for you ," said Beleri.
In his speech he promised "to continue his fight for the Hellenism of Northern Epirus and our national rights." Greek Minister of State, Makis Voridi, was also present at the meeting with MEP Beleri.
Fredi Beleri, after thanking the attendees for their exciting presence at his first event as an MEP in Athens, referred to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis' visit to Himara, saying that "it was this historic visit that inspired the people of Himara, that made them feel that they are an inseparable part of this nation, it was the day that Mother Greece covered us". This atmosphere, this passion, this atmosphere remained alive until May 14, 2023".
He then added that "they may have managed to take over the administration of our Municipality through coup practices, but they will never be able to erase history."
“ The story of a handful of Greeks who resisted propaganda and intimidation and won. And for this victory I never bowed my head during the 16 months I spent in prison. I did not negotiate, I did not compromise, I did not bow. I could not do it because my compatriots did not bow or lower their heads. Because I knew what my withdrawal would mean for our entire minority ,” said Beleri.
At another point in his speech, the ND and EPP MEP emphasized that "next week, the Petitions Committee will hear for the first time the testimony about the difficulties and oppression that our minority has experienced. "A compatriot of ours will be in Brussels to talk about our property and other rights", adding that "we will find many other ways so that the history of Northern Epirus can travel continuously in the European Parliament" .
