Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha was faced with a direct question from one of his followers on social media regarding the figure that the DP and its allies would run for the Tirana Municipality. Berisha was asked whether the candidacy would be political or a comprehensive civic profile, while the Democratic Party leader chose to avoid a direct answer, while emphasizing that free elections are not held in Albania. “We will do everything to have the most representative candidates in Tirana and throughout Albania,” Berisha said.
I would like an answer from you regarding the local elections in Tirana. Will the DP candidate be a political figure or an inclusive civic profile? And given the ongoing and justified accusations of the use of criminal and illegal mechanisms by the Ramaduro government during the electoral processes, what concrete guarantees are you working towards? And do you think that enough is being worked on with the grassroots to ensure real representation and a fair process?
Sali Berisha: We will do everything to have the most representative candidates in Tirana and throughout Albania. On the other hand, I emphasize that the only way to have free and fair elections is to remove Edi Rama from power. Edi Rama is the fiercest enemy of free voting and I want to say that any illusion that Edi Rama accepts free and fair elections is an open support for the dictatorship.
What we achieved, and this was certainly vital and necessary, was to prove to the world, to the international community, that in Albania elections are held under the conditions of a party-state.
That in Albania, elections are determined by drug cartels. That Edi Rama has transformed the administration into an electoral political police. That the elections in Albania are a veritable electoral farce.
This is already clear to the whole world. But if the international community has fully realized this, has sanctioned this in more serious international documents, it is up to us Albanians to shake hands with this electoral criminal, this fierce enemy of the vote and freedom of Albanians.
Of course, here we are dealing with an additional factor, we are dealing with a terrible censorship, which they tend to deny with the extraordinary manipulation that the government-controlled media exerts on truths and reality.
I'll give you an example. In August, all the government officials were on vacation and didn't make news with their nudity on the beaches. In August, I was at headquarters condemning the electoral farce every day.
The two Siamese sisters, each more evil than the other, I won't go any further, of the AMA, made reports that the media devoted 90 percent of their time to Sali Berisha. They became famous for their shameful deceptions.
It has also been proven that from Edi Rama's offices, the media receive lists of which people should not enter their studios, which people should be invited and discredited in their studios, and which people should be invited and praised in their studios. Of course, this is now becoming increasingly evident, which is why the OSCE/ODIHR report on the elections states that 90 percent of the media are controlled by the government.
