The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, articulated his position on the local elections and the protest announced on April 17, placing both in the same political framework: the removal of Edi Rama as a precondition.
Berisha stated that the candidate selection process will focus on representation, but without providing concrete criteria or mechanisms for this process.
"We will do everything to have the most representative candidates. I emphasize that the only way to have free and fair elections is for Rama to leave. Any illusion that he accepts fair elections is open support for the dictatorship," he said.
Regarding the protest expected to take place on April 17, Berisha said that it will not be violent.
"We do not intend to take power by force. Our protests have not overthrown the government but have achieved the greatest discrimination of the government, representing Albanians with dignity when racist anti-Albanian lobbyists said that Albanians are insensitive to the thefts committed. I am sure that the protesters would like another scenario. But I am convinced that peaceful scenarios will make us achieve our goal," he said.
