Democratic deputy Jorida Tabaku writes through a post on social networks that the opening of the military base in Kuçovo is proof of the strategic importance of Albania and the role of our country in the North Atlantic Alliance.
Today we mark an important day for Albania as we celebrate the 15th anniversary of the country's NATO membership with the opening of the military base in Kuçovo. A testimony of the important historical step taken 15 years ago that once and for all marked the geostrategic change of NATO with the membership of our country but also the strengthening of our national security, freedom and democracy.
The inauguration of the NATO base in Kuçovo is a proof of the strategic importance of Albania and our role in this alliance. An important step for strengthening our alliance in a difficult time that the world is going through with Russia's aggression against Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East. A symbol of the trust that strategic partners such as the USA have towards Albanians and Albania.
But this should not just be a step of pride and end there. Our task remains to meet and further strengthen national and cyber security by changing our approach to the armed forces. The trust that NATO has given us should be rewarded in real investments and the good functioning of our armed forces, increasing our efficiency in the field of military security and not only.', writes Tabaku.
