116 million euros have been blocked as a result of what happened in July last year. The government is trying to generate these funds through the banking system and has called all the banks, but it has been impossible.
The suspected abuses of the EU's 33 million euro fund for agriculture by the Albanian authorities have caused serious consequences for Albanian farmers, due to the blocking of another grant by IPARD.
This is the opinion of the opposition deputies, according to whom the Albanian government does not even accept the help of the opposition to find a reliable solution for Brussels.
On the contrary, according to Jorida Tabaku, chairwoman of the commission for European affairs, the Albanian government has tried another alternative to secure this money to help the agricultural sector, failing.
" 116 million euros have been blocked as a result of what happened in July last year. The government is trying to generate these funds through the banking system and has called all the banks, but it has been impossible because they are procedures that the banking system cannot perform as they can be done through EU grants . Tabaku said to A2CNN.
Beneficiaries of EU funds, for the democrat Tabaku, are only large entrepreneurs with government recognition.
" The funds went to a privileged group of farmers, only large farmers benefited, it is a number of 260 farmers who applied, there was a difficult procedure to receive these funds, which made it impossible for the individual farmer to benefited from these funds. Under these conditions, an entire industry was set up so that these people who received the funds were connected to the government ," said Tabaku, for "A2CNN".
Tabaku is of the opinion that with this scheme, the officials involved in this suspected affair have done a great harm to Albania in the eyes of Brussels.
" Problems that arose after the discovery of the corrupt affair with donor and EU funds are both stains that, no matter how much they improve the mechanisms, remain stains on Albanian institutions. Practically, AZHBE is sealed, it is a crime scene", she concluded.
In addition to the OLAF investigation, the case with suspected abuses of EU funds for Albanian farmers is also being investigated by the Special Anti-Corruption Structure.
